Material Characterization Central Laboratory (MCCL) User Guide

1. Licensing System

To ensure user safety, maintain equipment performance, and reduce equipment malfunction and downtime due to incorrect operation, the use of research equipment is subject to a licensing system. New registrants are required to participate in the “Lab Tour” and “User Guidance,” and can obtain a license for the equipment they have practiced on during the “Equipment Training.” Depending on the user’s proficiency and experience, the person in charge may impose restrictions or conditions on the use of equipment during after-hours or holidays.

2. Educational Program

At MCCL, we offer various educational programs for new users. These include the “Lab Tour” to explain the procedures for using the lab, the “User Guidance” to introduce the lab’s equipment and discuss important usage considerations, the “Introductory Seminar on Materials Measurement” which explains the principles and measurement methods of the equipment in an easy-to-understand manner for beginners to intermediates, and the “Equipment Training” which teaches how to operate the equipment. For more details, please refer to the separate booklet (Please see “Education Program Guide”).

The procedure for using MCCL equipment is as follows:

① User registration

Users are registered once a year in the user register by the responsible user for each laboratory. New users will be registered on an ongoing basis. Those affiliated with an off-campus institution should submit a User Qualification Application Form.
For user registration, please consult with the responsible user assigned to each laboratory.

② Lab Tour & User Guidance

We hold “Lab Tours” for those who are new to using the Materials Characterization Central Laboratory. The tour includes explanations of the procedures for reserving and using the lab’s equipment. The tour takes approximately 20 minutes. Anyone who has been newly assigned to a research lab or is relevant should participate.
In the User Guidance, the person in charge of each piece of equipment will introduce and provide an overview of the equipment, as well as explain any special precautions related to its use. All new users must attend. Additionally, we request the “Student coordinator” to check for any changes or updates.
